Statistic 2025<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I have updated the statistics unse more: Status 01. November 2025. This gives a status before any possible upcoming changes that are triggered by the new Program Policy of Callerlab (MS 50 and PLUS50).<\/p>\n

Not so many changes since early 2024. Some clubs that already had problems have dropped out. Many clubs still have problems. Indicator is text like “Call before coming – possibly no club night” and similar. As far as membership numbers are published – there are big differences. However I would estimate there is an average\u00a0<\/strong>of 20-30 members\u00a0 per club.<\/p>\n

Some more information from my compilation may be interesting:<\/p>\n

Following statistics were created by me. It should give some information on the Square Dance activities in Germany and should help to discuss “The Proposal” and its consequences for Germany – specially how many clubs will be affected.<\/p>\n

How I did it:<\/p>\n

I used the information on http:\/\/sdinfo.de and the EAASDC homepage and copied it manually into an Excel spreadsheet. All this information is available in for the public.<\/p>\n

With this material I visited each homepage of ALL clubs. Some of the web addresses were not correct any more – however Google helped. With the information on the websites I completed my spreadsheets. As example I checked which programs they are offering and how often they dance. This was not always consistent with the information on the EAASDC homepage.<\/p>\n

I already did this work early 2021 – while Corona kept us from dancing. This made the work this time much easier. Most work had to be done for Clubs that most likely do not exist any more. Very seldom there was a hint “Our club folded”.<\/p>\n

The statistics should give an overview about the actual Square Dance activity. It may not be correct in all aspects. There may be clubs that exist although I declared them folded and vice versa. Also the categories (MS, PL, A…) may not be correct in each and every case.<\/p>\n

I will not interpret the statistics for you. You should come up with your own opinion.<\/p>\n

I “invented” the “ND” category for clubs that still exist on the EAASDC homepage, but do not offer any dances (or where I couldn’t find any information about it). My impression in most cases was: “Not existing any more”. I also put travel clubs, that only meet once a year in this category:<\/p>\n

This is a decline of app. 50 clubs.<\/p>\n

My impression when skipping through the many homepages: Many clubs ask to call before coming to a club night “We may not dance each week”. It seems not only the number of clubs has declined, but also the number of dancers in the clubs.<\/p>\n

On the other hands there are a number of clubs where the dancers come running.<\/p>\n

Another information that the statistics doesn’t show: When a clubs calls itself “MS\/PL” it leaves room for interpretation. Some clubs only occasionally offer a Plus Tip if enough dancers are present. Others have an extra night with Plus only. And between this there aree many other forms of “Plus-Dance”. This affects more than 100 clubs that will have to have an intense discussion on how to handle “The Proposal”.<\/p>\n
